2004 West Bay SonShip 58' Extended Cockpit

Alpha Wave has one of the finest interiors of any yacht of this class. Stepping aboard you are welcomed by the classically nautical design imbued with light and air. The three stateroom raised pilothouse with cockpit and flybridge flows comfortably with spacious gathering spaces and gracious connecting areas. Quarter sawn American cherry hardwoods are employed throughout, all with a lush satin finish and high gloss cabinet accents.  Wall covering, fabrics, blinds, carpeting, pillows, bedding and covers are upgraded and are of the finest quality. Closets and hanging lockers are lighted and lined with aromatic cedar. Windows on the main deck are a tinted, heat resistant laminated glass. Living spaces feature opening ports, overhead hatches, or sliding windows for natural ventilation. Alpha Wave has 4 reverse cycle heat and air units and twin Espar heating systems for year round comfort.

The engine room is full standing height and is accessible from the aft deck via full height flip up hatch. The thoughtful layout simplifies maintenance with excellent accessibility to all components. Staterooms are accessed via a gradual stairwell forward from the starboard side of the pilothouse.

Step from the teak laid cockpit through the polished stainless doors to the open and airy salon. Great visibility in every direction affords a pleasing atmosphere. A phantom roll screen is fitted on the aft doors and Duette blinds offer unlimited viewing and privacy options. To port is the large U shaped sofa wrapped in luxurious gold and beige chenille.  The sofa has been modified to allow storage under the middle and forward sections.

Forward to port is a custom cherry wood bookcase and custom stemware rack above. Forward to starboard is a cherry wood cabinet that houses the pop-up television. All around, the large windows are enhanced with wood blinds in lambrequins. Exotic and rare Sapele pommele wood tops the cabinetry and custom designed coffee table.

Moving forward and up two steps, the welcoming warmth of the classic teak and holly laminate flooring greets you in the galley. The U shaped galley has vantage aft to the salon, a large window with wood blinds to enjoy your surroundings and an uninterrupted view forward to the Pilothouse window. It is efficient in design, layout and storage. The countertops are finished in a light-colored Corian with splash rail, appliances are stainless steel and the sink is fitted with water filtration. The sink is a double stainless basin with a single lever Kohler faucet.

Opposite is the Dinette covered in rich blue ultra leather and capable of seating 4 comfortably at the  matching Corian topped table with storage cabinet beneath.

The midship master takes full advantage of the beam of the boat.  The centerline queen sized bed is also outfitted with storage drawers beneath. Two swing arm reading lamps and a beveled mirror are above, on the aft wall. Silk Roman shades over the port lights and rope lighting and dimming switches offer numerous lighting options. Custom designed American cherry wood cabinets provide greatly expanded full wall storage above copious drawers to starboard. There is a vanity with stool and wood wrapped mirror sited along the forward bulkhead. There are two cedar closets and a Whirlpool stacked washer/dryer with convenient soap shelf. Lighting controls are on each bedside and there is a Furuno multi function display and stereo controls on the starboard side. A 22" wall mounted flatscreen television, satellite TV receiver and DVD player are subtly stowed in starboard cabinetry.

A centerline queen berth has innerspring mattress, upgraded bedspread and pillow shams, and large storage beneath. There is a lighted cedar lined hanging locker with shelf storage, 2 Lewmar overhead hatches with Oceanair screens and night shades, a dresser, mirrored cabinets outboard and mirrored forward bulkhead. A 15" flat screen TV, satellite TV receiver, DVD/VCR and stereo speakers with volume control are fitted in this cabin. There is rope lighting, headboard swing arm reading lamps, and dimmer switches.

Deluxe upper and lower berths are outboard and are fitted with plush innerspring mattresses and upgraded bedspreads and pillows with shams. There is a lighted cedar lined hanging locker and full height storage locker forward with shelves. Reading lights, rope lighting and dimmer switches are fitted.

West Bay has a specialized and high quality AC/DC ships electrical system that incorporates a custom load switching circuit breaker panel to balance both generator and shore power and obtain maximum efficiency.  It is further supported by a Yacht-O-Matic automatic electrical source switching system to provide hands off control for switching generators and shore power loads. There are analog meters to monitor AC and DC amps and volts. Low voltage 12 volt LED lighting is used appropriately throughout the boat.

At the same level as the Galley and Dinette and warmed by elegant teak and holly flooring, the Pilothouse is centered around the curved console with navigation and full engine instrumentation and engine controls. To port is the chart area with red adjustable position work light, chart drawers and storage beneath. Helmsman chair is a leather covered Stidd seat. Windows are kept clear when needed by three multi speed, marine grade windshield wipers and washer with air defrost system. Port and starboard pilothouse access is through flush fit aircraft-style sliding doors with roll-away Phantom screens. 

Entering from the port side swim platform door, the extended cockpit is 18" larger than other West Bay 58's and easily accommodates the set of a dining table and 8 teak folding chairs with canvas cushions in navy with tan piping. Two vented storage lockers are outboard to aft port and starboard. Swing out panels to control engine and bow and stern thrusters are tucked away in both port and starboard lockers. There is a sink and cabinet to starboard of the salon doors, and a Miele electric barbeque grill to the port of the salon doors. There is a hand held hot and cold shower at the transom. Bazooka waterproof speakers with volume control, overhead floodlight in the overhang and courtesy lighting down low. Forward to port is the ladder and hatch to the flybridge.  

The transom incorporates the glass-faced lighted Baitwell/Fish Tank which is equipped with autofill, pump & timer. There are fishing rod holders for up to 8 rods securely mounted in the engine room plus 4  fish rod holders overhead. There is a tender fueling station with 40 gallon storage tank and 12 volt pump station. Fender storage is in a fiberglass locker. Stainless steel stern tie and towing bits with stainless steel hawse holes are incorporated into port and starboard wings.  There are 5 removable robust N handrails along the expansive teak covered swim platform. 

The ensuite master head runs fore and aft along the port side. The vanity top is Corian with a designer vessel sink of blue glass and California Faucets dual lever faucet and spigot. Aft is the shower stall with clear door and single lever Brizo showerhead with hand held spray head.  Forward is the Vacuflush freshwater toilet and a heated brass towel holder. The medicine cabinet is finished with beveled mirror doors. The headliner is a fitted mirror and there is a ventilating fan. Marble tile floors are upgraded to include a luxurious NuHeat in-floor heating system.

Located opposite the port Guest Stateroom with Corian topped vanity, designer blue glass vessel sink and California Faucets dual lever brass faucet and spigot, beveled mirrored medicine cabinets. VacuFlush freshwater toilet, ventilation fan, fitted mirrored headliner and storage cupboard below the vanity. There is shower with clear door, a towel warmer and a deluxe NuHeat in-floor heating system.

Accessed directly from the pilothouse via a graceful floating staircase or by ladder from the aft cockpit is an unusually large area with console forward for navigation and instrumentation.  A robust stainless steel tube rail is fitted with the tinted Venturi.  There are two cushioned helm chairs that have been newly upholstered and each with Stamoid fitted covers, and aft is a large L-shaped settee to port with a robust dual pedestal adjustable height table for outdoor dining. Nautical stripe Sunbrella fabric on settee.  Westbay custom hardtop and Mastercraft enclosure with new cover on the  tender.  The yacht tender is sited aft with a Steelhead  power rotating, tilt and extension 1500# davit system. This rugged center console Novurania is highly customized and seriously equipped for for fishing, wakeboarding and sightseeing excursions. Complete with new Stamoid weather covering.

The white hull is vacuum bonded hand laid fiberglass with 1" Divinycell on hull sides. There are Fiberglass core stringers, and osmosis protection is provided below the waterline. The deck is cored as are all bulkheads. Barium filled foam composite laminate in engine room bulkheads and overhead provides superior sound insulation. Boot stripe is 2" navy Imron paint and bottom was bottom painted in Spring 2009.   The hull is protected with a rub rail capped with a stainless steel striker. All hand rails and rail fittings are 1 ¼" 316 Stainless. There are 12 cleats - 4 bow, 2 stern, 4 spring line and 2 flush pop-out on swim platform. An anchor platform with bow roller is fitted on the foredeck. Propeller shafts and hydrodynamic rudders are stainless steel.

The cockpit floor is laid teak sole and varnished teak cap rails on bulwarks. A port side door opens to the swim platform with 5 removable stainless steel N handrails and an extra set of receptacles. Even when sea conditions are challenging, the West Bay 58 hull form has proven to provide a quiet and stable ride underway and at anchor.
